Canadian iconic landmarks that will be dark this year include Niagara Falls and the CN Tower Earth Hour in Red Deer: "The City of Red Deer will be turning off all non-essential facility lighting as practically possible on March 28 at 8:30 p.m., but we also encourage the citizens of Red Deer to help make the skyline go dark to show the world our collective commitment to action on climate change," said Craig Curtis, City Manager. During the 2008 event, Red Deer consumers responded enthusiastically to the call for reduction to power consumption.
