Pre Winter Home Maintenance Check List I woke at 6 a.m. this morning to the sound of my smoke detector beeping to remind me that it is time for a battery replacement. I realized that it is time to do the twice yearly maintenace check. Replace smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries Replace furnace filter Check expiry dates on fire extinguishers and reload if necessary Have a family meeting and review locations and use of fire extinguishers, identify what should be done in an emergency and determine a safe meeting place outside Remind everyone that if a fire is out of control, alert everyone to get out and call 911 Take a few minutes to take care of these tasks now and you can relax until Spring!
