FREE money and Tax breaks for First Time Homebuyers!!!

If you are a first time home buyer, now is the time to jump into the real estate game.  Not only is the market a strong buyer's market (which means low prices) but there are programs available to help you make the "leap"! 1.  Property Transfer Tax - 1% on the first $200,000 + 2% on the balance of sale price.  You may be exempted from this very high cost if you qualify, ...

Free Money!!

So what about this new home buyer program?   In calling the Ministry of Finance, here is clarity.  This has nothing to do with a home buyer's income tax return.  The home buyer, assuming he or she meets the criteria, applies for the bonus.  If they are eligible, the government approves the application and sends a cheque to the applicant for the amount claimed. ...

Don't say I didn't warn you!!

Hello all, When I moved to Vernon in 1999 I bought a 3 bedroom house with a partially finished basement and double garage for $125,000.  That house is worth over $300,000 today.  The market was low.  I considered buying an investment property at the time but changed my mind.  I understand (hopefully as a realtor with 20 years experience) the "Buy Low, Sell High" concept ...

Don't get scammed!!!!

I just want to warn everyone of a scam in the Vernon area (possibly other areas as well). Three weeks ago a nice looking lady came to my door.  She was wearing a Staples shirt and was very polite and personable.  She was looking for donations for the Staples Back pack program.  Money would go to help needy kids with school supplies and with each donation you would receive a gift coupon ...

Rates going up????

Bank of Canada inching closer to a rate increase As expected, the Bank of Canada maintained the policy rate at 1.00% today; however, the Bank assumed a more aggressive tone with respect to the outlook saying that "some of the considerable monetary policy stimulus currently in place will be withdrawn." This is a step up from the May statement, which projected that stimulus would be "eventually withdrawn." ...

In Toronto

I was born and raised in a quiet small town called Bowmanville about 1 1/2 hours east of Toronto. Everyone knew everyone...and I hated it! When it was time for me to attend university, I could not wait to escape a small town and go to the big city.  For this reason alone, I attended University of Toronto.  How I loved being lost in all the millions of people where no one ...

Buyer's Market

I think I am safe to say that unless you have been out of Canada for many months with no contact with the outside world (that actually sounds kind of nice!) or living in a cave, you probably know the real estate market is correcting, AGAIN!  Inventory in the Okanagan is rising, sales are dropping and so are prices.  So what are homeowners to do if they are trying to sell in this kind of market??  ...

Making things happen!!!

Last year I had big dreams for what I was going to do over the summer.  I really wanted to attend music festivals, a passion of mine so I researched the local festivals but that’s where things ended.  I just figured it would all come together in the end and I would be there.  WRONG!  The summer came and went and nothing happened.   I vowed this summer things would ...

Easter Seals 24-Hour Relay!

Way too old for “all nighters” ...but well worth it!   I remember staying up all night many times when I attended University of Toronto debugging computer programs.  I would head off for class the next morning and barely feel the lack of sleep.  Fast forward 30 years (that’s hard for me to even type!) to the 24 hour relay for Life Easter Seals Send a Kid to camp ...
