(Charlottetown, PE January 19, 2010) –14 of Prince Edward Island’s top musical acts have come united to together for a benefit concert Island Artists Unite for Haiti. This nine hour licensed event will take place Friday, January 29, 2010, with entertainment starting at happy hour (beginning at 5:00 p.m.) and will go non-stop thru until 2:00 a.m. at the Historic Charlottetown Seaport Event Centre, on Historic Charlottetown Waterfront. “The support from Islanders and the local arts community for the Red Cross response in Haiti has been tremendous. Funds raised at this benefit concert will provide critical assistance to people affected by this earthquake,” says Margaret MacKenzie, from the Canadian Red Cross in Prince Edward Island. Committee Co-Chair Ron Switzer and bass player for Haywire tell us, “With performers completely donating their time and talents, and the support of the Island community and corporations, 100% of your donations will be given to the Red Cross. With ticket sales and donations at the door, we know we can reach our goal to raise $10,000 for relief in Haiti.”
“Haywire welcomes this opportunity to help in this time of need;” expresses David Rashed, keyboard player for Haywire and Committee Co-Chair, Island Artists Unite for Haiti. “And to share the stage with some of the Island’s best performers is going to make for an exciting night of music.”
The Canadian Red Cross is mobilizing to support relief efforts in Haiti—providing medical support, clean water, food and shelter to people who have lost everything. Since the earthquake struck, more than 400 International Red Cross workers have hit the ground in Haiti (including 12 trained emergency response workers), along with 70 tons of food, water and medical supplies.
Because of the generous support of our partners in the business community, we are able to give 100% of tickets sales and donations to the Canadian Red Cross. Thank you!
